Enhancing Radiation Safety at Sapporo Cardiovascular Clinic: A Milestone in Occupational Safety

Sapporo Cardiovascular Clinic

On June 10, the interventional team at Sapporo Cardiovascular Clinic (SCVC) made a significant advancement in their staff’s radiation safety by installing Rampart IC’s radiation shielding and orthopedic protection along with RaySafe i3 real-time dosimetry system. This installation marks a pivotal moment for the clinic’s occupational health and safety.

Commitment to Health and Safety

Studies1 have shown long-term use of radiation protection apron is associated with occupational health risks, particularly musculoskeletal problems. Commonly known as Lead apron, it is considered a leading cause of back pain, fatigue, and myalgias. SCVC’s decision to invest in Rampart IC’s motorized lead equivalent acrylic panels, combined with RaySafe’s i3 system helped to improve workers health while avoiding unnecessary radiation exposure.

Real-Time Radiation Monitoring with RaySafe i3

The RaySafe i3 system provides real-time dosimetry, enabling healthcare workers in the cath lab to monitor their radiation exposure instantaneously. With RaySafe i3 system, the shielding effectiveness of Rampart IC’s shielding panel can be demonstrated effectively. This allows medical staff to take immediate and appropriate actions to minimize their radiation dose, enhancing their safety during procedures.

A Milestone for SCVC and Beyond

This initiative at SCVC is not only a milestone for the clinic but also a significant step towards enhancing occupational safety in interventional cardiology in Japan. The successful implementation of the RaySafe i3 system and Rampart IC shielding at SCVC sets a precedent for other hospitals to follow. As awareness of radiation protection and occupational health continues to grow, more healthcare facilities are expected to adopt similar technologies, rising standards across the industry.
